On 16 December 2022, as part of its collaboration with NBA basketball legend Michael Jordan Nike opened its flagship Nike Jordan’s store in Italy’s fashion capital, Milan. The Nike/Jordan partnership dates back to 1984 and has been a hugely successful retail story for Nike. The new Milan store aims to celebrate this important relationship by offering a new retail concept, putting Nike at the forefront of streetwear and basketball culture.
Sustainable future is a key feature Our work in Milan further demonstrates Nike’s commitment to behaving in a more sustainable way. Our work with Nike dates back to 2019 when we applied our protective coating to their flagship Oxford Street store, Nike Town. The project in Milan is a continuation of our work with Nike’s to help them to achieve their ultimate environmental goal; to promote sustainable cycles, resulting in a contribution to a reduction in climate change.
Cotech Biosafe protects surfaces and profits
With retail still adapting to a post-Covid world, where consumers have been further driven online for their shopping, Nike knew it would have to do something special to get footfall back into its stores. The Nike Jordan store in fashionable Milan has been designed with consumer behaviour in mind, created to draw attention and bring shoppers back to stores. Re-assuring shoppers in a post-Covid world, particularly when finances are strained, causes new conundrums for big brands.
Cotech Biosafe forms part of the solution, both for consumer reassurance about the spread of germs, and business aims to demonstrate a more sustainable way of operating. The application of Cotech Biosafe in the Nike Jordan store keeps the store looking fresh and clean and also has the added bonus of reducing bacteria growth by up to 99.9%, a particular concern in retail where areas can be touched by thousands of hands each day. Airborne dust particles are repelled and unsightly, handprints and finger marks are easily removed due to Cotech Biosafe’s barrier technology.Applying our antimicrobial surface technology coating to all fixtures and fittings within the store also extends the life of the surfaces, ultimately meaning they’ll last for longer, avoiding the environmental and financial impact of regular shop re-fits.
The coating also significantly reduces the amount of water needed in cleaning regimes.
This was the third Nike store, the first in Italy, for which Cotech has applied surface protection. Cotech have worked with Nike since our first project at their iconic Oxford Street store, Nike Town, in 2019. We also recently completed work on their Westfield Store at White City, London.
